Brimming with Shells Free Hat Pattern

So I made this hat for my grandmother on Mother's Day.

She's been traveling for a while, but she'll be at our house soon and then I can give it to her. (Yes, yes, I know that I'm way late. Father's Day is over too...But better late than never they say!)

But yes, here is the pattern for my "Brimming with Shells" hat. You know...because there's a brim...and there are shells...Eh?

Fine. Here's the pattern:
Materials:
  • 1 skein of 4 ply yarn
  • 1 H/5.00 mm hook
  • A stitch marker (optional, but very, very helpful)
  •  Scissors and a yarn needle to finish off

Stiches/Skills Needed:
These stitches are pretty simple, so if you don't know how to do any of them, I'd recommend looking up a quick Youtube video.

  • Slip stich (sl st)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Single crochet increase (inc)
  • Extended Double Crochet (edc)
    (
video tutorial link- Check out their channel by the way! They  are quite awesome.)
  • Extended Double Crochet Shell (here referred to just as "shell")
    • To do this stitch, you do an edc 7 times in the same st. Pretty simple!

Size/Gauge:
  • Measures 9.5 inches from top of hat to bottom, (brim unfolded)
  • Measures 18 inches around, but the pattern is stretchy, and should fit most head sizes (what a weird phrase).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             But to be safe, I'd measure your (or whoever the hat's recipient is's) head, and you should be safe if your head is anywhere from 17-22 inches. If you need the hat an inch or two bigger/smaller, I'd recommend sizing your hook up a size or two.
  • Gauge: 13 sts by 13 rows = 4" square (Don't worry if this isn't exact-As I said, the hat is stretchy so we're free to be a little lax with this.)

  • 2-4 hours

  • Round 9: Shell in the same st, skip 2 sts, sc, *shell in sc from previous round (picture below), skip 4 sts, sc* [repeat from * to end of round] (6 shells)

  • Round 11- 20: *Skip 4 sts, sc, shell in sc space* [repeat from * till end of round] (6 shells per round)

Finish off, and tuck in ends!

Voila!

I have the pattern on Google Drive for ease of printing: click here

And now, some dramatic photos from different angles.

(Flattened and the brim lowered, so you can see the design/shaping better)

(Okay, this one has a very strange angle, but I'm posting it anyways.)
You are allowed to sell finished items made from this pattern, but please do not sell the pattern itself. Thanks!

    1. I'm not sure what happened, but I just put the pattern on Google Drive-it may be easier to print it from there. Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Gy3cDiHPl8RXWcG0yNni-3ya5ficKS7mUaGokyvYAjM/edit?usp=sharing

If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll see if I can do anything to help.

    2. (Hmm that didn't show up as a link-you can copy/paste it into the address bar or click on the link within the blog post. I put the link at the end of the pattern, before the last few pictures.)

  3. I have a question on row 9. Is it basically *shell in sc, skip 4, sc* around?

    1. Yes, other than the beginning of that row. I now realize that the wording was kind of confusing :/. I'll fix it asap!
